El Dorado County Humane Society Featured in Mountain Democrat Article
El Dorado County Humane Society's Community Cat Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program was featured in a Mountain Democrat article. EDCHS Vice President, Julie Mack and EDCHS Director, Kim Parsons invited Mountain Democrat writer, Laura McCutcheon to one of the many managed community cat colonies in El Dorado County. EDCHS currently oversees nearly 100 community cat colonies on the Western Slope of El Dorado County. We estimate the number of homeless/abandoned cats living on the Western Slope to be in the 1,500 - 2,000 range.
The cats benefit by being spayed/neutered and given a rabies vaccination and ear-notch (identifies cats have been altered), then released back into a managed colony or relocated to a barn or similar environment. These cats are provided water, food and shelter and allowed to live out their lives...no longer able to procreate. The people who live with these community cats appreciate the benefits of "natural" rodent control, reduction in colony cat infighting and the virtual elimination of rabies risk to humans and pets.
EDCHS is a nonprofit organization and receives no government funding, so donations are very much appreciated. As a volunteer-only organization 100% of your generosity will directly serve animals in need.
